My house is 5 minutes from the main pier at Chalong from where many of the charter boats run. Wahoo Game Fishing H.Q. is in Chalong as are a number of other operators. There’s a very cheap car park right by the pier and a number of local food stalls from where you can stock up your daily provisions at an incredibly cheap price!

Wahoo Game Fishing H.Q.

I have included a couple of links to Fishing Centers in Phuket. The one I have dealt with is Wahoo Game Fishing with whom I have experienced some great sailfish and tuna  fishing. This is mainly done trolling but they will also have a go at letting you catch live bait and drift fish for the sailfish on light gear…now that is exciting.

Wahoo offer a range of boats from top level air conditioned American Game Boats to what would be the equivalent of our UK ‘wooden warriors’. Prices obviously reflect the sort of boat you are on but all the details can be found on the Wahoo site via the link provided here. You will see, for example, that Wahoo One (the flagship) offers liveaboard trips to the Adaman Islands which are on the west side of Phuket and northwards towards Myanmar.

Cheap Charter

There are stacks of Longtail Boats available for charter especially at Rawai (see map). These are much cheaper to hire. I enjoyed plenty of evenings fishing from these at anchor catching a wide range of bottom fish including rays, eels, permit, barracuda and dorado. The boats can easily take 4 people which will set you back about £5 each for a lengthy evening session. I take a 30lb class Shimano travel rod with a multiplier loaded with 40lb braid…it’s a bit over the top but the bottom is pretty rough with the coral. I have met exceptionally good local skipper named Captain Mitt. His phone number will at the house.

There are also plenty of places to try shore fishing. I take a travel rod and a few floats, lures and a selection of hooks from 2 to 4/0. Main bait is squid which can be bought cheaply at the many fish markets around.

Any fish you catch can come back to the house and onto the B-B-Q. It’s pretty ideal sitting by the pool with a few drinks and freshly caught fish!

You can email me as many questions as you like about the fishing…I’m very happy to help.
